I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L505 and the speakers are not as loud as i had hoped. You can hear them, but they are no where near as loud as most laptops are, and i like listening to music on it which is almost impossible without headphones. I have checked everything possible to increase the volume, and it is as loud as it can possibly get as far as i can tell. Is there anyway i can make these speakers louder without buying external speakers?

You need to tell your laptop that an external monitor is connected. You need to use the function keys to do this. For example... on my HP laptop, I have to press {fn} + {f4} (hold down fn, then press f4) to activate my VGA output. My f4 key has a picture of a monitor on it to show me that it is the right key. If I hit it more than once, it will toggle between laptop only, external monitor only, and both on at the same time.

Since you have a Toshiba, your VGA output key might not be f4. Look at the function keys at the top of your keyboard for a picture of a monitor. That is the right key.

Try removing the keycap and pressing the rubber dome or connection spot with your finger, firmly. I'm not sure why you need the zero key to reinstall the operating system anyway.
Failing that, find/borrow/buy, a hardwired USB keyboard. This will work right away when you start up the system.

Something happened to my toshiba satellite (some kind of error) and now it doesn't want to start and the power cord led keeps flashing even when I removed the power cord. What gives?

if it doesn't charge its very simple i have a Satellite but no led on the power cord anyways i left the part of the cord where it comes apart you know plugged up and in the wall but it fits both ways even though it is polarized and it overheated and stopped working so you need to get a new charger from toshiba most likely as that's what i did and it works great now just always check it after 30 minutes and make sure its not to hot if it is unplug it till it cools down and plug it back in the other way and you can leave it plugged in as long as you like it will not matter...

You should be able to do a system restoration on a new hard drive. However, from Vista onward, the system restoration has been included in a partition on the hard drive itself. I recently restored a Vista system for a friend off that partition. You may want to try that first.

if it doesn't charge its very simple i have a Satellite but no led on the power cord anyways i left the part of the cord where it comes apart you know plugged up and in the wall but it fits both ways even though it is polarized and it overheated and stopped working so you need to get a new charger from toshiba most likely as that's what i did and it works great now just always check it after 30 minutes and make sure its not to hot if it is unplug it till it cools down and plug it back in the other way and you can leave it plugged in as long as you like it will not matter...

I own a Toshiba satellite and it was using the windows xp network adapter to connect to wireless devices. I then switched one day to the network adapter config free that came with the computer. But I don't like it. How can I switch back to the windows xp network adapter. I've tried a few things like going to my control panel, internet options and also network settings. but it did not help.

I personally use the config free, it's simpler to use than the Vista network adapter.
But, if you insist...
When you open the config free there should be a button somewhere called settings (it differs from version to version). Somewhere there should be the option to turn it off.
If that doesn't work, you can kill the whole Toshiba flash cards thing (of which config free is a part) by disabling it in the msconfig under startup.

Toshiba satellite screen is blank on start-up, please help?

I have a toshiba satellite a505-s6025, and it was working perfectly fine yesterday. I open it today and notice its out of battery, so I hook it up to the charger and it turns on as usual, the fan is running, but the toshiba logo does not come up, nothing comes up. Dont really know what to do from here, am trying to avoid having to bring it and pay for it to get fixed elsewhere. Someone please help, thanks.

Eventually you might need to fdisk, reformat your toshiba satellite a505-s6025 laptop hard disk clean and reinstall OS. Before going that route, try following simple fixes to see if the problem goes away.

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your toshiba satellite a505-s6025 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your toshiba satellite a505-s6025 on.

Boot in "safe mode". As it starts up press F8, the computer ask you if you'd like to start in safe mode. Highlight "safe mode" and press enter. See if your toshiba satellite a505-s6025 works normal.

If it runs normal now, do the following maintenance and tune up,

Uninstall unnecessary programs and applications.

Scan with a antivirus program

Scan with a spyware/malware program

How to increase speaker volume on Toshiba Satellite L505?

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L505 and the speakers are not as loud as i had hoped. You can hear them, but they are no where near as loud as most laptops are, and i like listening to music on it which is almost impossible without headphones. I have checked everything possible to increase the volume, and it is as loud as it can possibly get as far as i can tell. Is there anyway i can make these speakers louder without buying external speakers?

welcome to the fold .... toshiba uses the best speakers (harmon kardon) but then puts in a cheep Yamaha soundcard we all have low sound due to this and external amplified speakers are the only way to fix the problem

I have a Toshiba Satellite A500 and I'm trying to correctly set up display for the HD T.V I plugged it into with my VGA cable. Every time I try, it either doesn't work, or all it says is Toshiba with my starting up picture in the back round on the T.V screen.

You need to tell your laptop that an external monitor is connected. You need to use the function keys to do this. For example... on my HP laptop, I have to press {fn} + {f4} (hold down fn, then press f4) to activate my VGA output. My f4 key has a picture of a monitor on it to show me that it is the right key. If I hit it more than once, it will toggle between laptop only, external monitor only, and both on at the same time.

Since you have a Toshiba, your VGA output key might not be f4. Look at the function keys at the top of your keyboard for a picture of a monitor. That is the right key.

My son uses a hand-me-down Toshiba Satellite Laptop and the CD Drive is structurally / mechanically broken.

How difficult would it be to install a new one myself?

I've installed new laptop hard drives and memory before but never a CD drive. Is it easy enough for me to do or should I take it to a repair shop?

The DVD/CD drive is a module, go on Toshiba Website. You will be able to identify the part number that goes with your model. It is not as hard as laptop hard disk replacement.

I broke the screen in my Toshiba Satellite L505D-GS6000 and now I need to replace it. So I was hoping to find a site that provides step-by-step instructions with pictures if possible to show how to replace it. I never bought a warranty and the manufacture warranty doesn't cover accidental damages. What does the flashing power cord led on my toshiba satellite mean?

Something happened to my toshiba satellite (some kind of error) and now it doesn't want to start and the power cord led keeps flashing even when I removed the power cord. What gives?

if it doesn't charge its very simple i have a Satellite but no led on the power cord anyways i left the part of the cord where it comes apart you know plugged up and in the wall but it fits both ways even though it is polarized and it overheated and stopped working so you need to get a new charger from toshiba most likely as that's what i did and it works great now just always check it after 30 minutes and make sure its not to hot if it is unplug it till it cools down and plug it back in the other way and you can leave it plugged in as long as you like it will not matter...

My Toshiba Satellite laptop has crashed AGAIN. Can I buy a new hard drive and use my factory recover disks to reinstall everything 'out of the box' settings and software?

I guess my real question is, does the recovery disk have windows vista on it and if I buy a new blank hard drive will the recovery disk work? Or does it have to verify the existing hard drive in order to reinstall everything?

You should be able to do a system restoration on a new hard drive. However, from Vista onward, the system restoration has been included in a partition on the hard drive itself. I recently restored a Vista system for a friend off that partition. You may want to try that first.
